This week, Ben visits his final four women and their families in their respective hometowns. Get ready for an episode complete with repetitive, familial interrogations about Ben’s feelings for the ladies and unabashed criticism from at least one of the women’s overprotective siblings.
1) AMANDA – LAGUNA BEACH, CA
In Cali, Ben and Amanda are faced with the ultimate test — meeting Amanda’s kids. Amanda, who, until Bachelor, hadn’t been away from her kids for more than four days at a time, tearfully runs to greet her adorable daughters, with Ben looking on in sheer amazement.
BTW, Amanda’s youngins, Kinsley and Charlie, are literally child models and way better dressed than I ever was at age three. #90skidprobs
After a fun-filled beach day chasing seagulls and acting like the picture perfect family of four, the gang returns to Amanda’s house, where Ben meets the rest of the Stanton clan.
Amanda’s parents and sister shares their concerns about Ben being ready to take on the responsibility of instant-dad, but, based on Ben’s conversations with them, it looks promising.
2) LAUREN B. – PORTLAND, OR
Next, Ben joins Lauren in the City of Roses and eco-friendly hipsters. Lauren takes her man on a downtown stroll, where she confesses her love of butter to him (awarding her five bonus points for that one). They end up in a whiskey library, because no other type of alcohol screams “romantic” better than whiskey…
Lauren drops the bomb that she hasn’t introduced many people to her family, and without their approval, a future isn’t possible between her and Ben. Fingers crossed they love him as much as America does.
Molly (Lauren’s sister): “What makes her stand out to you?”
Ben: “There’s something about your sister that’s, like, I can’t put words to it…I don’t know. I feel really lucky.” *breaks into tears*
^^I honestly pictured Ben on a job interview being asked, “What do you love about this company?” to which he’d reply, “I can’t really put words to it.” LOL, HIRED. Anyways, the tears were enough to convince Molly of his feelings towards her sister.
Lauren tells Molly that she’s in love with Ben and that he’s “her person.” *cue unintentional Grey’s Anatomy TV show product placement*
Papa Bushnell tries to bring Lauren back to Planet Reality, reminding her that while what she feels for Ben might be real, there are three other girls in the picture. Overall, the fam seems to have been quite fond of Ben.
3) CAILA – HUDSON, OH
Caila shows Ben her high school, where she claims she “became her own person.” For the record, anyone who says he/she became his/her own person in high school is probably lying. Unless you peaked in high school, which, if that’s the case…I’m sorry.
Caila then takes Ben to the coveted bench, where, once upon a time, she would stalk nauseatingly cute couples from afar. She’d always dreamed of taking someone special there, and tells Ben that he’s the first person she “thought worthy of this bench.” Basically, if I ever hear the word “bench” again…don’t get me started.
Afterwards, Caila brings Ben to her father’s toy company, where she says “kids’ dreams come true.” Because Caila and Ben are kids, and not grown-ass adults. Caila, already planning the future, tells Ben they are going to design their own house together. Then, they head to the toy factory and build the house together.
Finally, Ben meets Caila’s family. Her dad tells Ben that if he and Caila end up together, Ben will become a part of the Filipino culture that makes their family so dynamic and special.
Caila breaks down to her father about how real her relationship is with Ben. She wants his validation about Ben AND her feelings for him (she professes she’s in love with him, if you didn’t catch that).
She then tells her mother she’s in love with Ben, and her mother says she knows, it’s “crystal ball clear.” All emotional truth-outs aside, Caila’s mom is the cutest.
4) JOJO – DALLAS, TX
We open Jojo’s date with a bouquet of flowers and a letter on her doorstep. Of course, we all assume they’re from Ben. WRONG. They’re from Jojo’s ex-boyfriend, Chad, who wants her back. A.K.A. the producers needed to fluff up this episode with some drama. In my opinion, most guys named “Chad” should come with a warning label. I’ve just never heard that name be associated with anything good.
Jojo freaks the f*** out and decides to settle her past once and for all, so she gives Chad a call. Funny how he wants her back now that she’s on a show that gives her automatic fame. Once Ben arrives and sees her crying, Jojo admits what happened. Ben is super uncomfortable with the situation, but, being the gem he is, he supports Jojo.
Here comes trouble. Jojo’s overprotective brothers, Matt and Ben, have already given Ben a seal of disapproval before even speaking with him. No one is good enough for their little sis, it appears.
Meanwhile, I’m starting to think Jojo’s mom is really out-of-tune with the basics of this show.
Jojo: “I’m so scared. I just don’t want to get hurt.”
Soraya (Jojo’s mom): “You’re not going to get hurt. You’re beautiful.” UGH, MOM, that’s not how love works.
Jojo: “It’s hard, it’s scary. There’s three other girls still involved.”
Soraya: “Oh.” OH?? HOW WERE YOU UNAWARE OF THIS?!
Jojo’s brothers then give their sister a brutal reality check and actually bring up a good point. She’s only been on two one-on-one dates with Ben, so how can she already feel so deeply about him and know he’s the one? They tell her to keep guarded, contrary to what her mom just told her to do. She argues that the only way the relationship is going to work is if she just allows herself to feel.
Shortly after, the brothers ambush Ben, accusing him of brainwashing the girls and saying that it psychologically doesn’t make sense that he can have feelings for all four women. Please notice Soraya taking a pull of wine straight outta the bottle during this confrontation. Sounds like she puts up with a lot of banter from her sons.
Ben defends his honesty with Jojo’s brothers the whole night, but he leaves Jojo uncertain and unsettled by the conversation.
In an emotional yet extremely classy send-home, Ben says goodbye to Amanda. While he does not state his reasons for ending the relationship, my guess is that it has something to do with being unprepared to become a dad to her kids so abruptly. You will be missed, Amanda!
