I must admit, it was a bit unnerving trying to put this outfit together. I love the slip dress-over-T-shirt trend, but I desperately wanted to put my own spin on it. For some reason, my closet was just not doing it for me one day, so I enlisted my sister’s help in styling the bottom half of the look with a few of her closet favorites.
Honestly, without my sister, this look might not have reached its full potential. I love how it encompasses a melting pot of styles, from ’90s boho to contemporary minimalist. The Tobi top is a standout piece because it appears to be a dress, but the side ties reveal it to be an elongated tank. For the sake of flaunting the button details on the pants, I’m glad it is! Plus, I’m obsessed with how the straps fall on the top’s backside.
Believe it or not, men can also give you great fashion advice when you need it most (and least expect it). When my boyfriend saw the outfit, he loved it but felt it needed something more. He asked if I had a hat, and I immediately remembered my black floppy hat I had purchased two summers ago but only wore once (typical). Post-head placement, the birds were chirping, and the choir was singing “Hallelujah.” THAT was the missing link that was necessary to bring this outfit to fruition.
Before I go, I will leave you with this: you may get caught in a writing rut from time to time, but stylist’s block is also VERY REAL, friends. No matter the situation at hand, it’s alright to turn to your people for guidance when inspiration escapes you, and to lift you up when you’re down on your luck and the going gets tough.
A special thank you to Tobi for gifting me with the tank. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
