One of the highlights of vintage shopping is going into it with little to no intent. Of course, it would make the hunt a lot simpler if you already have a specific piece in mind, but sometimes, it’s more fun to hit the jackpot when you least expect it.
A few weeks ago, I went to Beacon’s Closet in Park Slope, and I made a pact with myself to peruse every rack in the store (yes, I am chronically impatient). Sure enough, I came upon an Acne Studios short sleeve turtleneck for the beautiful price of $20. Knowing the quality of the shirt and how it felt when I tried it on, I couldn’t say no!
To give this top the attention it rightfully deserves, I paired it with wide leg denim culottes and red mule sandals to give the look a pop of color. As for accessories, I opted for my latest jewelry find (vintage-inspired studs from the Hexad), and a chain belt graciously gifted to me by the lovely ladies behind Shop Journal and House of Tame. The chain delivers the gift of edginess to an overall chic look.
So, folks, if you’re ever seeking out new items for your wardrobe, plan a trip to the thrift store before running to your local Zara or Forever 21. Give some love to more senior, evergreen items that have a larger shelf life (literally). With a little patience and persistence, you’d be surprised at what you might find. <3
