Into the Woods

When Jacob informed me that we’d be heading to Weston, Connecticut for Memorial Day, I couldn’t wait; the trip was a short, albeit necessary reprieve from the commotion of city life (which I love, of course). The absolute antithesis of New York City, Weston is a small town in Fairfield County, CT, that screams of serenity and tranquility. The roads are dotted for miles with trees and flora, which reminded me of the good ol’ days of suburban living. Living in the city, I forget how much I appreciate nature until I’m immersed in it once again.

Having researched the town on Google Images prior to our arrival, it hit me right away that Weston would be the picture-perfect setting to do a classic ’70s-inspired shoot with Jacob. What I didn’t know beforehand is that his mother’s boyfriend (whose cottage we stayed at) had an old-school Jaguar. You can all assume my reaction in response to this discovery. Best. Prop. EVER.

Being in such a peaceful and greenery-filled location, I wanted my outfit to blend in well with the land around me. I chose this vintage winged top that I bought from Na Nin Vintage’s Instagram store and paired it with my faux suede bell-bottoms from Missguided. Since the weather was rather unfortunate that weekend, I went the safe route with a pair of sneakers. Lastly, no ’70s look is complete without a pair of tinted, retro sunglasses! I scored mine at Urban Outfitters for just $18.

Side note: because it was dead silent around us, I told Jacob I wanted to play music (“Ball and Biscuit” by The White Stripes, anyone?), so I could loosen myself up (as reflected in some of these shots). I will now be using this tactic in future shoots, as it is a great way to get out of my head and into the zone.
