When I first tried this outfit on, I placed tights underneath as a precaution for confronting the autumn chill that has finally engulfed New York City. After a good look in the mirror, I realized it bordered on full-fledged funeral attire, and I wanted to avoid that at all costs. So, like the brave soul I was, I did away with the tights and decided to stroll the cold, rainy streets of Manhattan with bare legs.
Thank you all for enduring that terribly boring short story about how this outfit came to be. Now, for the actual details on how this outfit came to be.
I’m still experimenting with layering, as it is easily one of the best ways to turn the items in your closet into versatile timepieces you can’t live without. The Topshop romper I layered on top of my turtleneck sweater bodysuit plays more of a role as a going-out staple during the summer months. However, I wanted to create the illusion of a sweater-skirt combo that could carry this romper right on over into fall, and thus, this monochrome ensemble was born. Also, all black. ‘Nuff said.
I also want to give a shoutout to these UGG booties, which have persisted for as long as I have lived and breathed (JK, eighth grade). They are proof that UGG footwear isn’t just limited to your seventh-grade, basic bitch obsession with the iconic winter boot that we hate to admit we still own.
