With spring finally in full swing, I figured it was time to spruce up my virtually all-black wardrobe with a little more color. As stated in my previous post, I have recently been on a major ’70s kick. There is something really special about bringing back trends from decades’ past and adapting them to modern-day wear. To demonstrate my zest for retro, I put together three outfits inspired by my favorite decade. Hope you guys enjoy!
OUTFIT 1: When I’m scoping out the Internet for clothes and can’t seem to find what I’m looking for, I always turn to ASOS, the source of my denim jumpsuit. Its thousands upon thousands of items will leave you questioning how much wasted time you spend online shopping. Personally, I haven’t calculated that time because I’d prefer not to know…ANYWAYS, I like that this jumpsuit pays homage to the ’70s with a lace-up bandeau top and flared bottom. The shade of blue gives off a Polaroid-type vibe, which perfectly captures the very essence of vintage. To round out the look, I paired the jumpsuit with a fringe bucket bag from Urban Outfitters and tan heeled ghillie sandals from Topshop.
OUTFIT 2: This is easily one of my favorite outfits I’ve ever assembled. So far, it has produced comparisons to Mila Kunis’s Jackie Burkhart from That ’70s Show and Olivia Wilde’s Devon Finestra from Vinyl, so it’s safe to say I’ll be riding that high for awhile. The cream-colored, suede-faux fur coat (a lovely hand-me-down from Mother Dearest) is a tribute to the decade’s oversized fur coat trend. I paired it with a gold wrap front blouse that screams, “I’m ready to turn up, and by turn up, I mean disco to my heart’s content.” I threw in some dusty brown suede pants, also flared, to complement the neutral colors up top. I completed the ensemble with my versatile Forever 21 boots, which I have sworn undying loyalty to since the first moment I placed them on my feet.
OUTFIT 3: I can’t remember the last time I wore pink and loved it until purchasing this bodysuit. It’s blush pink, therefore not overpowering in color, AND it boasts an off-the-shoulder style, a style I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate. The focal point of this outfit, however, is the jeans. A flared silhouette is flattering for a variety of reasons: 1) It adds some height and gives you legs for days; 2) If you’re lacking in the gluteal region, don’t fret. Bell-bottoms are here to save the day; 3) Saying “bell-bottoms” is cool for some reason. These jeans, courtesy of Nasty Gal, are probably the most comfortable pair of jeans I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think they were that weird-ass creation known as “Pajama Jeans.” Alongside their perfect fit, I love the front button detail and the slightly frayed denim on the bottom.
